Medicaid

Medicaid is available to people who are:

  • Under age 21, or over the age of 65
  • Pregnant
  • Disabled
  • Blind

Medicaid is available only to certain low-income individuals and families who fit into an eligibility group. Medicaid sends payments directly to your health care providers.

You may be asked to pay a co-payment for certain medical services.

Coverage may start retroactive three months prior to application. Coverage also stops at the end of the month in which the person's eligibility stops.

Coverage is not provided to all poor persons. The Medicaid program only provides coverage to persons if they are within the special eligibility groups. Income, as well as assets and resources, are used to determine part of a person's need for Medicaid.
